Why the friends of Kel was started
...

The friends of Kel was formed in the winter of 2004, by a group of close friends in order to help financially support Kelly Giancotti who had been suffering from brain cancer since the winter of 2003. Even with good health insurance, the medical bills added up fast.

The first event for The Friends of Kel was a bowl-a-thon held at The Fishkill Bowl in January 2005. It was a huge success raising over $30,000.

Unfortunately, Kelly passed away on May 28, 2005. When all the bills had been paid there was still money left over in the fund. To keep Kel's legacy of kindness, compassion, strength, perseverance, and incredible courage alive, the friends decided to form a not-for-profit organization to help others suffering from cancer who were in financial need.

Today The Friends of Kel has been able to help multiple families of the Hudson Valley in the last 3 years. We hope to be able to continue our not-for-profit and help many more families of the Hudson Valley.
